The sand was warm under our feet from the day’s sun as we walked to our favorite beach club to have a drink. The breeze was fresh and the aroma of jerk chicken filled the air on Negril’s 7 Mile Beach on the coast of Jamaica. We were exhausted and taking some much-needed R&R after months on end of 18 hour days back in Florida. We were young and aggressive, remodeling beach homes, making money anyway we could and this was a needed break from our grueling work in Florida.

The Reggae sounds gently drifted through the Jamaican night breeze having an unexplainable transmutation effect on our souls in the night air, and we began to share ideas while in this euphoric mood. “We need to take it to the next level” was the topic. “We’re working hard and we can do more, and better, bigger, now is the time, we are young!”

On the back of a napkin we sketched out a 60 unit condominium complex and had just the perfect place in mind for it, a large lot on Miramar Beach, Florida. On that night on the Jamaican beach our journey began.

Forty years later, we have either bought or built and sold millions of dollars of beach property, homes, condominiums and resorts on this long and joyful journey. Today we own a small empire of beach properties around the world, but we are closer to the end of our journey than to the beginning. We are ready to retire, get back to the basics of living, and enjoy the years we have left together.
